Hong Kong Never Leaves Anyone Behind – The Charity Dinners Healing Tai Po

I have always believed that the soul of Hong Kong lives in its kitchens and bars. In chaotic dai pai dongs and hushed tasting counters alike, strangers become friends over a bowl of wonton noodles or a perfectly shaken cocktail. This week, that soul shone brighter than ever.

When flames tore through Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, claiming lives and displacing hundreds of families just days before Christmas, the city paused — then responded the only way it knows how: together.

Within hours, chefs hung up competition and opened their doors to compassion. Bartenders swapped signature serves for donation jars. Neighbourhood cafés turned a random Tuesday into a full-day lifeline. This is the Hong Kong I love — fierce, fast, and unflinchingly kind.

The Dinners That Are Healing Hearts

Jia Group Charity Dinner at Louise – 9 December Six heavyweight chefs — Loïc Portalier, Antimo Maria Merone, Ricardo Chaneton, Agustin Balbi, Antonio Oviedo and Manav Tuli — will cook together for the first time ever. One night. One table. HK$3,888 per guest, every cent to Hong Kong Red Cross. Purple corn infladita with foie gras, Galician oysters, Konkani cod curry finished with fresh Alba white truffle… this isn’t just dinner; it’s a love letter written in flavours from every corner of the world that now calls Hong Kong home. Book while seats remain.

Black Sheep Family Fund Dinner – 4 December ArChan Chan opens Peng Leng Jeng for a raucous family-style feast: crispy chicken skin dusted with Sichuan pepper, soy-braised pork belly that falls apart at a glance, bottomless wine and beer — all for HK$500, every dollar straight to Tai Po families. In a city that sometimes feels too busy to breathe, nights like this remind us how warm we can be when we sit shoulder to shoulder.

The Rescued Feast: Friendsmas After Dark – 11 December At Soho House, rescued food scraps become a glittering buffet under disco lights. HK$550 buys you dinner, a drink, a raffle ticket and the rare feeling that indulgence and generosity can be the same thing. Proceeds split between Tai Po fire victims and Bethune House’s migrant domestic workers — because in Hong Kong, no one gets left behind.

Mezcal Mission at Coa An intimate mezcal and ancestral tequila tasting where every sip supports Impact HK and Feeding Hong Kong. Education, agave, and aro — and 100% of the night’s takings channelled straight to people who lost everything.

Kinsman & Gokan – All-Day Everyday Heroes Kinsman on Peel Street gave every dollar earned on 2 December to Feeding Hong Kong. Gokan turned its entire SG Spirits launch week (3-4 December) into a fundraiser for the official Wang Fuk Court Support Fund — transforming what would have been a celebratory event into a quiet act of solidarity, with 100% of revenue flowing directly to those rebuilding their lives. Quiet, powerful, no fanfare required — just Hong Kong doing what Hong Kong does best.

This is more than charity. This is who we are.

In a city often accused of caring only about money, look at the receipts: tables booked solid for charity dinners that cost more than many monthly salaries; bars giving away tomorrow’s rent; chefs shaving priceless white truffles for strangers they will never meet.

These events are not about showing off. They are about showing up.

If you can join a dinner, book now. If you can drop by a bar tonight, order an extra drink. If all you can do is share this article or send a donation directly to Red Cross or Impact HK, that counts too.

Because every plate passed across a table tonight is a promise: You are not alone. Hong Kong eats together, grieves together, and rebuilds — together.

See you at the table.

Hong Kong’s heart is open, and it’s serving hope by the plateful.
